OAKLEY -- An Oakley man suspected of killing his roommate in a fight on Thursday has been arrested, authorities said Friday.
Contra Costa Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol deputies caught up to murder suspect Emanuel Ramirez, 38, shortly after responding to the first block of Amador Avenue around 3:55 p.m. and finding Rogelio Amador, 62, severely injured and on the ground, Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said.
Police and paramedics tried to revive Amador, but they pronounced him dead at the scene. The Contra Costa Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on Amador on Friday but a cause of death was not available immediately.
Marine Patrol deputies located Ramirez, whom authorities said Friday was Amador's roommate. They detained and interviewed Ramirez, then arrested him, Lee said. He was being held at the County Jail in Martinez in lieu of $1 million bail.
Police have not said what caused the fight.
Amador is the second homicide victim in Oakley this year. In January, 23-year-old Antioch resident Jesse Hernandez died after being shot in front of a home in the 500 block of Norcross Lane. That killing took place less than a quarter-mile from Thursday's homicide scene.
Police arrested Oakley resident Michael Arthur-Sanchez Martin, 19, in connection with that homicide. Martin. A preliminary hearing for Martin will be held May 20, at which time the DA will try to convince a judge there's enough evidence to hold Martin over for trial.
