This is shaping up as a musical summer, with bands playing free public shows Thursday nights in Moraga through Aug. 23, and three Friday night concerts in Lafayette in August.
The Lafayette "Rock the Plaza" concerts in the Lafayette Plaza downtown will be supplemented by two more "Dancing in the Plaza" nights Friday night, June 15 (sock hop), June 22 (square dancing) and June 29 (Disco Night).
Adding to the fun in Lafayette will be "Movies in the Plaza" nights, with the featured attractions starting at dusk, include "Field of Dreams" on July 6, "Jaws" on July 13, "The Muppet Movie" July 20 and "Iron Man" July 27, all accompanied by a snack bar compliments of Whole Foods.
The Friday night events in Lafayette are being organized by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lafayette.
This year's "Rock the Plaza" nights will feature The Floorshakers Aug. 10, Mixed Nuts on Aug. 17 and Night Fever Aug. 24. All three shows begin at 6 p.m. at the plaza. Also, the Aug. 3 concert will be a Jazz Camp concert from 3 to 9 p.m. at Stanley Middle School in Lafayette.

The "2012 Summer Concert Series at the Moraga Commons" events will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at Moraga Commons Park, at Moraga Road and St. Mary's Road.
The series kicks off with the June 21 concert by Moonalice, a band of San Francisco rock veterans; June 28, Pladdogh, Celtic music; July 4, Livin' in the USA Rock (7 p.m. concert and show time this week only); July 12, Bell Brothers (country); July 19, Lady K & the Kings of Swing, Big Band swing; July 26, Because, a Beatles tribute band; Aug. 2, Houserockers (rock and roll); Aug. 9, Mixed Nuts (rock from all eras); Aug. 16, Motor Dude Zydeco (Cajun zydeco); Aug. 23, City Rocks Revue, a Bay Area rock tribute.
Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or lawn chairs to the grassy hillside in front of the Moraga Commons band shell.
