Moraga student receives Siemens scholarship
Annie Ye, a student at Campolindo High School, is one of 150 students in 25 states who won the Siemens Merit Scholarship, which provides each student with $4,000 for tuition over the course of their college years, given in installments of $1,000 per academic year.
The Siemens Merit Scholarship is given to children of Siemens U.S. employees. Recipients were chosen based on high scores on the PSAT as well as on the student's academic record, activities, contribution to the community, school recommendation and an essay about personal characteristics, plans and goals.
This year the Siemens Foundation awarded close to $600,000 in scholarship money, with the intent of encouraging and inspiring the next generation of scientists, researchers and thinkers.
Orinda day camps set for July
A two-week program aimed at giving children opportunities to keep learning over the long summer break will be offered at the DaVinci Day Camp in Orinda July 30-Aug. 10.
Structured for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, the camp includes public speaking, writing and science workshops filled with games, crafts and more.

'Camp Jam' headed
The Camp Jam Power Chord Academy and its rock and roll summer camps for teenage musicians and year-round, educational rock and roll music programs for kids and adults, comes to the Saint Mary's College July 22-Aug. 4.
Aspiring guitar players, bass players, keyboard players, drummers and vocalists will get to unleash their inner rock star under the guidance of local musicians, music teachers and guest instructors with special appearances by celebrity musicians.
Artists featured at Camp Jam PCA sessions include musicians who have performed with Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Guns & Roses, Sheryl Crow, Survivor, The Fray, Rod Stewart, Bad Company, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The All-American Rejects, Don Henley, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts and others.
There will be several different sessions, both day camp and overnight, for different age groups.

Be host for foreign exchange students
Host families are needed for incoming foreign exchange high school students. Students are 15-18 years old, English-speaking, have their own spending money and carry health insurance.
Host families are eligible to claim a monthly charitable contribution deduction on their itemized tax returns for each month they host a sponsored student.

Families needed to host international students
The International Education Center at Diablo Valley College is looking for local families to host international students on a temporary basis while they improve their English skills. All students speak basic English.
Participating families are paid a monthly stipend of $750 per student. families are required to provide two meals per day (three meals on weekends), a private bedroom for the student, and be involved in the student's life and treat them as a family member.

Summer youth bus pass available
The County Connection is offering a deeply discounted summer youth bus pass to help students get around during the summer.
The "20-Ride Summer Youth Pass" sells for $15 and is available now for youths age 6-18. Summer youth passes are accepted on all County Connection fixed-route buses. County Connection allows more than one person to use a single bus pass, making it easier for families with multiple children, or for those planning group outings, according to a news release.
