OAKLAND -- An Arizona man was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on charges he robbed six East Bay banks and took more than $13,000 over a month-long span.

Raymond David Lopez, 30, was arrested June 27 in Hayward when he showed up to a court appearance on an unrelated petty theft case out of San Leandro. Dublin police took Lopez into custody after acting on a tip that he was due to appear at the courtroom.

The most recent robbery occurred June 12 when Lopez is accused of holding up the U.S. Bank inside a Safeway on the 7400 block of Dublin Boulevard. Authorities said he stole $756.

The grand jury in Oakland also indicted Lopez for five other robberies.

He is charged with robbing: $2,500 from the US Bank on Stoneridge Mall Road in Pleasanton on May 9; $2,606 from the US Bank on Crescent Plaza in Pleasant Hill on May 13; $1,409 from the First Community Bank on Blanding Avenue in Alameda on May 26; $1,135 from the Bank of America on Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette on May 29; and $4,900 from the US Bank branch on South Shore Center in Alameda on June 4.
