Bipartisan cooperation crucial
I feel very pessimistic toward Congress and its inability to solve problems and offer solutions to all Americans. It took Congress 1 1/2 years to finally agree on the needed income tax changes to prevent us from falling off the fiscal cliff.
The problem is the United States has a huge spending problem and an out-of-control deficit that Congress is ignoring. Congress needs to work on these problems.
I continue to hear much bickering between the Democrats and the Republicans. It seems all the energy is being spent on accusing the other party of something instead of working together. We need some give and take between the two parties to get things done.
In the coming months, I encourage our Congressional leaders to do everything possible to work together to solve these issues. Deteriorating relations between leaders in the two parties is not acceptable. We need Congressional action and leadership to work thought these issues. Congress waited until the last minute to pass the tax legislation. I am hoping that in the following months Congress can use some common sense thinking to ensure the right decisions are being made.
