LAFAYETTE -- Greg Moeller doesn't sit behind the dais at volunteer meetings, nor is he known for speaking out for causes or issues.

Moeller expresses his love for Lafayette in colors -- yellow, generally, as he blankets public spaces in the Happy Valley/Upper Happy Valley area with thousands of daffodils every year.

That digging and bulb-planting work has taken root in the hearts of those who live in that part of Lafayette, and for that work he has been selected as the city's 2013 Citizen of the Year.

Moeller will be honored at a celebration dinner Friday, March 22 at the Lafayette Park Hotel and Spa.

Moeller will succeed former County Supervisor Gayle Uilkema as Lafayette's Citizen of the Year. Uilkema, a longtime Lafayette resident, had spent many years as a community volunteer and city council member before her election to the board of supervisors in 1996. She died in May 2012 after battling cancer.

Reservations for the dinner are required -- the reservation form is available on the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce website (www.lafayettechamber.org) home page, or by calling the chamber at 925-284-7404.

The Lafayette award is sponsored by the chamber and the Lamorinda Sun.
