Orinda

The following excerpts were taken from the Orinda police log:

Friday, Sept. 13

  • DUI: Police received a report of a hit-and-run involving a vehicle at 10:05 p.m. in the 20 block of Camino Sobrante. Police were able to trace rubber tire tracks to the residence of an 85-year-old man whose car had damage matching that of the stricken vehicle. The suspect admitted to driving under the influence and hitting an object and was arrested.

    TUESDAY, Sept. 24

  • Warrant arrest: A 52-year-old man was arrested at 4:55 p.m. in the 90 block of Brookwood Road after police responded to a call of several people taking items from a public swimming pool and putting them into a moving van. Police located the van, made an enforcement stop and contacted the driver who confirmed a warrant from Alameda Superior Court. The man was also driving on a suspended license but police determined that the items were legally moved.

  • commercial burglary: A commercial burglary was reported at 1:20 a.m. in the 00 block of Camino Sobrante. A 33-year-old man was arrested at Safeway after he exited the store without paying for a roasted turkey breast and a package of salami. The man refused to acknowledge he entered the store, but surveillance video showed him entering the store with nothing and leaving with unbagged items. Police determined that the man was on active probation from Sacramento County and had an outstanding arrest warrant. The items were returned to the store.

    Moraga

    The following excerpts were taken from the Moraga police log:

    Tuesday, sept. 24

  • vandalism: Somone spray-painted graffiti on a fence and the front of a residence on Sandingham Street.

    Friday, sept. 27

  • traffic incident: A silver 2001 Volvo S40 failed to yield to a gray 2005 Honda Odyssey while entering Camino Pablo from Oxford Drive. The subsequent collision resulted in $4,700 worth of monetary damage to both vehicles (but no injuries).

  • grand theft: $5,200 worth of jewelry was taken from a residence in the 100 block of Walford Drive.

  • possession of controlled substance: Police contacted the occupant of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision in the 1400 block of Moraga Way. The driver admitted to the collision. During the investigation it was determined that the driver of the vehicle was also in possession of controlled substances and placed under arrest.
