Cougars win marquee matchup

  • In a Diablo Foothill Athletic League baseball matchup between a pair of defending North Coast Section champions, Matt Ladrech pitched Campolindo to a 3-0 win over Acalanes. The senior headed to Cal pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks in the complete game win. He was supported by Scott Singh and catcher Adam Remotto, who both went 2 for 3. Campolindo improved to 3-0 in league play with the win.

    Broncos looking formidable

  • The Northgate High boys volleyball team is in the middle of another strong season. The Broncos are 3-0 in Diablo Valley Athletic League play and were on a 13-match winning streak before losing to Foothill 2-1 in the Gold Division semifinals at the Dougherty Valley tournament on March 29.

    Eagles stay perfect

  • Austin Cannedy pitched another gem to keep the Clayton Valley Charter High baseball team perfect on the season with a 1-0 win over Deer Valley on March 28. With the complete game three-hit shutout, Cannedy improved to 4-0 on the year and lowered his ERA to 1.64. Grant Meylan drove in James Biles for the only run of the game in the fifth inning.

    Bulldogs notch victory

  • The Alhambra High baseball team earned its first Diablo Foothill Athletic League win of the season, beating Dublin 2-0 on March 25. Zach Keever pitched the shutout, allowing two hits and striking out seven. Leo Costa went 2 for 3 with a double, run and three stolen bases in the victory. The Bulldogs were 7-5 overall, 1-3 in DFAL play entering the week of March 31.

  • Livermore Stampede, softball, April 4-5, times TBA -- Carondelet will attend the tournament, which features many of the top teams from Northern California. The Cougars have pool play games against California and Castro Valley on April 4.

  • De La Salle at Monte Vista, baseball, April 4, 4 p.m. -- The Spartans will try to stay near the top of the East Bay Athletic League standings, but games at Monte Vista are never easy.

  • Stanford Invitational, track and field, April 5, all day -- Some of the best high school track and field athletes in the state will meet in Palo Alto for one of the better early season meets.

  • College Park at Northgate, baseball, April 8, 4 p.m. -- Both teams entered the week trailing Clayton Valley Charter in the Diablo Valley Athletic League standings, but this series could still be pivotal in determining the league champion.

  • Matt Ladrech, Campolindo baseball -- Ladrech struck out 12 in a complete game shutout over rival Acalanes on March 27, a 3-0 Campolindo win.

  • Kayla Dickerson, Northgate girls track and field -- Dickerson won three events -- the 100 meters, 200 meters and high jump -- to lead the Broncos to a 82-54 win over College Park on March 26.

  • Elvia Alvarado, Concord softball -- Alvarado went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, helping the Minutemen win their HASA tournament opener 10-2 over Pittsburg on March 27.

  • Jose Maravillo, Concord baseball -- Maravillo went 2 for 4 with two RBIs against College Park ace Joe DeMers to lead the Minutemen to a 4-2 victory on March 27.

  • Chris Williams, De La Salle baseball -- The senior went 4 for 4 with a double and two runs as the Spartans slugged their way to a 11-7 win over Foothill on March 28. He was 3 for 3 in a 8-0 win over Livermore on March 26.

  • Val Wirfel, Northgate girls lacrosse -- Wirfel scored seven goals to lead the Broncos to a 13-12 overtime win over Clayton Valley Charter, which was previously unbeaten in DVAL play, on March 28.

  • William Wright, Northgate boys volleyball -- Wright's eight kills, 12 assists and six aces helped the Broncos defeat Concord in three games on March 27.
