Vikings drop series to CRC

  • Diablo Valley College's baseball team won its opener in a series with Cosumnes River College but dropped the next two to fall to 19-11 overall, 7-8 in Big 8 play. Ben Krauth pitched the Vikings to a 3-1 win on April 8, allowing six hits and striking out seven over eight innings. The only run he allowed was unearned. Ryan Snyder was 3 for 4 and Davis Strong had two RBIs in the victory.

    Minutemen take third

  • Concord High's softball team took third place at the HASA tournament with a 14-0 win over Eureka on April 12. Sabrina Winningham and Kelly Drake had three hits each, Juliana Pichardo smacked a two-run homer and Drake pitched a six-hit complete game shutout. After a slow start to the season, the Minutemen have won eight of their last nine games.

    Eagles rally to stay unbeaten

  • Grant Meylan drove in two runs in the sixth inning to help the Clayton Valley Charter High baseball team survive a scare from Dougherty Valley and post a 2-1 win on April 11. Austin Cannedy and Riley Smith combined on a one-hitter for the Eagles, who improved to 15-0 on the season. Meylan was 2 for 3 with a walk in leading the offense.

    Broncos volleyball cruises

  • Northgate High's boys volleyball team picked up a pair of three-game wins to stay perfect in Diablo Valley Athletic League play. The Broncos got 13 kills from Christopher McDonough to beat College Park on April 8, then used a balanced attack to defeat Clayton Valley Charter on April 10. The Broncos improved to 23-3 overall with the victories.

  • Acalanes at Dougherty Valley, softball, April 22, 4 p.m. -- The Dons will try to keep up with one of the DFAL's better teams.

  • Campolindo at Miramonte, baseball, April 22, 4 p.m. -- The Lamorinda rivals wrap up the first half of Diablo Foothill Athletic League play with a game in Orinda.

  • Vacaville at College Park, baseball, April 18, 4 p.m. -- A busy stretch for the Falcons continues with a nonleague game against Vacaville.

  • Willie MacIver, College Park baseball -- MacIver played great defense and scored both runs in a 2-1 win over Northgate on April 10. He then went 3 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs in a 8-4 nonleague win over Palo Alto on April 12.

  • Kelly Drake, Concord softball -- Drake went 3 for 4 with a run and also pitched a complete game shutout as Concord beat Eureka 14-0 for third place at the HASA tournament on April 12.

  • Austin Dondanville, De La Salle baseball -- Dondanville earned the save with a scoreless seventh inning and went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI in a 6-3 win over Granada on April 11.

  • Andrew King, Las Lomas baseball -- The right-handed junior was dominant in a 6-0 win over Dublin on April 11, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out nine in a complete game effort.

  • Grant Meylan, Clayton Valley Charter baseball -- Meylan drove in two runs in the sixth inning to help the Eagles come from behind for a 2-1 nonleague win over Dougherty Valley on April 11.

  • Marquis Morris, De La Salle track and field -- Morris posted sensational times in taking second in the 110-meter high hurdles and 300 hurdles in the Invitational division at the Arcadia meet on April 12. He finished the 110 hurdles in 13.93 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 36.94 seconds.

  • Colleen Shepherd and Lauren Valla, Northgate girls lacrosse -- Shepherd and Valla each scored five goals and combined for three assists in the Broncos 16-7 win over College Park on April 11.

  • Giovy Webb, Carondelet softball -- Webb was 2 for 6 with a triple and drove in five runs as the Cougars earned a wild 8-7 win over Granada in extra innings on April 10 to hand the Matadors their first EBAL loss of the season.
