Prince is Contra Costa Animal Services' Pet of the Week for May 16.

ANIMAL SERVICES

Prince, a 3-year-old Parsons Russell terrier, is sweet and friendly. He's a little shy around strangers at first, but warms up when he knows them. True to the breed, he is super active, loves trail hiking with other dogs, chasing balls, and really wants to please. He was advertised as free on Craigslist, and a shelter volunteer responded, taking him home, rather than seeing Prince surrendered to a shelter. ARF

Leo is a congenial 5-year-old who was adopted as a young pup but lost his home due to a change in life circumstance. He is an extremely likable, intelligent fellow who will thrive in a home where he can receive lots of love, attention and daily sessions for romping and playing fetch. Leo likes to zoom around the yard. A basic manners class is recommended to help him learn to walk on leash. He weighs 90 pounds. The adoption fee for adult dogs is $225 and includes 50 percent off one seven-week dog training session. Visit Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation, 2890 Mitchell Drive, Walnut Creek. Adoption hours are noon-5 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday; 3-7 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Call 925-256-1 ARF (925-256-1273) or visit www.arf.net.
