Runners in the Lafayette Reservoir Run's 5K division, above, get underway only 30 seconds or so from the starting line. This was the 21st annual run, where approximately 2,000 runners and walkers took part in the 5K or 10K timed runs or the 2-mile fun run/walk. The start and end for all races was on Mt. Diablo Boulevard near the downtown plaza; the 10K runners circled the reservoir. At left, Cody Koch, left, and Jake Yoshinaka, both 6-year-old students at Happy Valley Elementary in Lafayette, are within sight of the finish line of the 2-mile fun run. Below left, As several hundred runners get their start on the Lafayette Reservoir Run 10K, one of the early finishers of the 5K division -- which had left the starting line about 15 minutes earlier -- approaches the finish line.
