LAFAYETTE -- The first "It's a Wonderful Life in Lafayette" community celebration to kick off the holiday season unfolds Friday, Dec. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Plaza Park in downtown Lafayette.
Visits with Santa, watch a parade on Golden Gate Way, go to the official holiday tree lighting ceremony, take advantage of one-of-a-kind photo opportunities and numerous fun things for kids, and enjoy live entertainment, crafts, food trucks, holiday treats and a holiday sing-a-long.
Santa is scheduled to ride in the parade on Lafayette's treasured "Old Betsy" fire engine, starting from the Lafayette Historical Society and traveling down Golden Gate Way, arriving at Plaza Park at 4:30 p.m.
The official lighting of the Lafayette holiday tree is planned for 5:30 p.m. The tree, decorated with environmentally friendly LED lights, will be lit each evening throughout the season.
The "It's a Wonderful Life in Lafayette" event is presented by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored by local Lafayette Realtor Dana Green and Branagh Development, who together are also hosting the environmentally-friendly downtown Lafayette twinkle lights for the 2013 Holiday Season.
