LAFAYETTE -- We love to hear about local business owners who help their neighbors in times of need as well as provide some comfort and joy during the holidays.

One of them is Bo McSwine, of Bo's Barbecue restaurant in Lafayette, who has played Santa for more than 10 years as a partner of Shelter Inc. Every year, he asks for a wish list from Shelter Inc.'s transitional housing program in Antioch. And last weekend, he delivered this year's toys and food to some 35 children at the Lyle Morris Family Center in Antioch.

"Providing toys for these kids is the highlight of my year," McSwine said.

Shelter Inc.'s mission is to prevent and end homelessness among low-income residents of Contra Costa County by providing resources that lead to self-sufficiency.

Shelter Inc. needs gifts or gift cards for teen boys and girls who are often forgotten this holiday season. To donate, call Theresita Gonzales at 925-957-7561 or email theresitag@shelterincofccc.org.

You may drop off your donation at Shelter Inc., 1815 Arnold Drive in Martinez. Call 925-335-0698 or visit www.shelterincofccc.org for more information or how to help.
