Voters decide who the 'idiots' are

What would the Times letters section be without Pete Laurence decrying incompetence (except among neo-conservatives)?

He's right about the Bay Bridge taking too long. But the steel was made in China because it saved taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. Is Laurence in favor of spending hundreds of millions more on the bridge so that taxpayers can subsidize American jobs? Smacks of "socialism" to me.

Laurence refers to the danger of sabotaged steel. The news media he decries have been thorough in reporting the Chinese steel is fine. The bolts, made in Ohio, are flawed. The concrete is suspect because of mistakes by a Caltrans engineer.

Laurence often cites border security cutbacks by the administration. To correct his oft-repeated error: President Barack Obama has strengthened border security and added more patrols than any president.

Laurence refers to letting enemies acquire nukes. I'm guessing he'd prefer launching new wars with consequences even worse than the disastrous Iraq adventure launched by Republicans.

Finally, he tells voters to "wake up" in order to vote "these incumbent idiots out of office." Laurence needs to be reminded that we live in a democracy and voters get to decide who they consider "idiots."

Theatrics did not work as intended

President Barack Obama threw a little temper tantrum last Wednesday after the Senate failed to pass his cherished gun-control bill.

He flew the Sandy Hook families to Washington, D.C., to exert pressure on the senators, but that bit of theatrics didn't work.

Poor Obama didn't get his way. Bet he wishes he were a dictator and not a president. That darn Constitution gets in his way. Obama doesn't lose sleep over Sandy Hook; he just wants to further his agenda of bigger government and less freedom for us.

In 2010, more than 15,700 fugitives and felons tried to illegally purchase a firearm. Eric Holder and the Justice Department prosecuted only 44. Why was that?

Why do we need new laws when Obama won't even enforce the laws on the books? Maybe he should look at his Teleprompter to see if the answer is there.

Personal security our responsibility

The Boston Marathon bombing proves the Second Amendment is necessary for our country's security.

Framers of the Constitution knew the importance of our personal security: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

We are the government of the people. Each American is a member of our "well regulated militia." It's the responsibility of every willing American to train and be proficient with arms and be regulated to protect ourselves, our family, our community and our country.

The Department of Homeland Security is worthless and must be eliminated. It has ordered 1.6 billion bullets; enough to fire five bullets into every person in America. It ordered 2,700 rubber-tired armored tanks to patrol our cities. Why?

Homeland Security searches old ladies and babies. Airports and federal, state and county buildings require searches. Why is that agency so privileged? Stop it!

Terrorists can bomb us while we're in lines at airports, sporting events, at Walmart, or church, or BART -- everywhere.

Shameful rejection by the Senate

The Senate's rejection of stricter gun-control legislation last week proves one thing: We Americans love our guns more than we love our children.

How shameful.

Hillary Clinton's change of heart?

So, Hillary Clinton now supports homosexual marriages.

Why the big change? She's running for president in 2016 and she needs their votes. It's that simple.

Who does she think she's kidding? Are they gullible enough to fall for this little act of hers? Time will tell.
