Annual public service award nominees sought
Nominations for three awards -- Dublin 2012 Citizen, Young Citizen and Organization of the Year -- will be accepted through Jan. 24, the city has announced.
Nominations can be made online at www.dublin.ca.gov or by calling the city clerk's office at 925-833-6650. The awards are given each year to honor an adult 18 or older, a youth in first through 12th grade and an organization that improves the quality of life in Dublin. Nominees must be based in Dublin. Volunteer judges not affiliated with the city will select the winners. Awards will be announced Feb. 20.

Soccer, flag football leagues added to parks
Sports enthusiasts will have a couple more options for getting active in 2013, with new winter/spring programs from the Livermore Area Recreation and Parks District.
The district's Adult Soccer League is recruiting men and women to sign up by the Jan. 11 deadline. Games will take place Friday evenings from Jan. 25 to March 29, unless makeups are needed. Registration is $895 per team. Participants will play an eight-game schedule, plus playoffs for the top four teams.

Former 'Dukes' star to croon at Bankhead
Former "Dukes of Hazzard" star Tom Wopat will bring his baritone, Sinatra-esque vocal stylings to the Bankhead Theater in Livermore on Jan. 12.
Although known for his role as Luke Duke on the hit 70s TV series, Wopat has built a career as a jazz/swing singer and stage performer. He's been twice nominated for a Tony Award for his work on Broadway for "Annie Get Your Gun" and "A Catered Affair," and has appeared in Broadway revivals of "Chicago," "42nd Street" and "Glengarry Glen Ross."
The show begins at 8 p.m. and is presented by the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center. Tickets range from $34 to $54 for adults and $14 for students.
