Pianin wins 3,200 meters in Clovis

  • Amador Valley High senior Jena Pianin won the girls 3,200 meters in the invitational division at the West Coast Relays at Buchanan High in Clovis with a blistering time of 10 minutes, 37.94 seconds on April 12. Pianin, who prevailed by nearly 40 seconds, now has the fifth-best time in the state and No. 24 in the country this year. Other local winners were California senior Karris Johnson (100 meters, 10.90), Amador Valley senior Darnell Robinson (200, 22.02), and the Amador Valley boys 400 meter relay team (42.25). The Dons had two runner-up finishers in Josh Slaton (400, 49.63) and Sam Peters (300 hurdles, 37.91, No. 4 in state).

    Amazing Matadors stay unbeaten

  • The Granada baseball team remained unbeaten with a pair of shutout wins last week, 5-0 over Amador Valley on April 10 and 7-0 over Granada on April 12. Anthony Olmo threw 51/3 shutout innings against California as the Matadors scored four in the top of the fifth inning to break open a scoreless game. Ryan Flayler pitched the final 12/3 innings. Granada's Craig Woolson had a double and three RBIs. Against Amador Valley, Dan Whitney was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Jacob Payne threw six strong innings with seven strikeouts and three walks.

    San Ramon Valley's Blick breaks 30

  • San Ramon Valley golfer Connor Blick shot an impressive 5-under 29 at Crow Canyon Country Club on April 11, but the Wolves fell to Foothill 182-186 in East Bay Athletic League action. Tanner Hughes led Foothill with a 1-under 33.

    Monte Vista's Bonham leads lacrosse

  • Monte Vista freshman lacrosse player Wiley Bonham had two outstanding games last week. He led the Mustangs to an upset 7-4 win over Marin Catholic on April 9 with two goals and two assists, and scored four goals in a 12-11 loss to De La Salle on April 12 in EBAL action. Bonham leads the Mustangs in scoring this season.

  • Campolindo at Dougherty Valley, baseball, April 18, 4 p.m. -- The three-time defending NCS Division II champion Cougars visit the Wildcats in a key Diablo Foothill Athletic League game. Campolindo beat Dougherty Valley 6-3 in the 2012 NCS championship game.

  • Foothill at Amador Valley, softball, April 23, 4 p.m. -- The Dons, who finished second in NCS Division I last season after winning the title in 2011, will face their rival Falcons, who celebrated the return of coach Matt Sweeney this spring.

  • Jacob Payne, Granada baseball -- Payne tossed six shutout innings in a 5-0 win over Amador Valley on April 10, striking out seven and walking four.

  • Eric Crispell, Foothill baseball -- Crispell evened his season record at 3-3 with five shutout innings in a 6-1 win over San Ramon Valley on April 10.

  • Jacob Solomon, Dublin golf -- Solomon shot a fine 31 at San Ramon Golf Club, helping the Gaels defeat Alhambra 178-213 and improve to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in the DFAL.

  • Nick Allman, California baseball -- The junior was 4 for 5 with two doubles and two RBI in a wild 9-8 win over Livermore.
