Granada's Tyler thrives in track and field, pool

  • Granada High's Matt Tyler placed first in the high jump, long jump and triple jump in an EBAL meet against Livermore on May 2. He remained unbeaten in all three events in league competitions this season. Tyler also took first place in the EBAL Diving Championship on May 4. Tyler's high-jump mark of 6 feet, 6 inches against the Cowboys is tops in the league, and his long jump (22 feet, 3.75 inches) was just off his league-leading mark of 22-6. His triple jump of 44-9 is second in the league.

    SRV swimmers sweep Monte Vista

  • The San Ramon Valley High boys and girls swimming teams swept Monte Vista in an East Bay Athletic League showdown on May 3. The Wolves' boys won 95-85 and the girls prevailed 132-51. Cody Tanabe won the 100 butterfly for the Wolves in 50.99 seconds. Jake Rollo, a freshman, won the 500 freestyle. Wolves' freshmen Hank Poppe and Brannan Haket went one-two in the 100 breaststroke. Dillon Williams had a strong meet for the Mustangs. In the girls meet, San Ramon Valley's Paige Matherson took first place in the 200 and 500 freestyles and helped the 400 free relay team prevail. The Wolves' Abby Miller won the 200 IM and 100 butterfly.

    Wolves' Keyser takes third in NCS tennis

  • San Ramon Valley freshman Alex Keyser, the EBAL champion, took third in the North Coast Section Division I Boys tennis tournament on May 4. Keyser beat Miramonte's Luke Bohuslav, the third seed, 6-2, 6-4 in the third place match. Keyser, the fourth seed, lost to No. 1 Miguel Diaz of Castro Valley 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinals after winning a three-setter over Terra Linda's Jerod Mah 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in the second round.

    Granada baseball improves to 20-0

  • The Granada baseball team improved to 20-0 overall and 10-0 in the EBAL with a 15-0 win over Amador Valley on Friday. The Matadors' Vince Fernandez was 3 for 4 with seven RBIs, hitting a grand slam in the fifth inning. Anthony Olmo got the pitching win.

    California wins thriller over Aragon

  • Travis Roberts was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and a stolen base as California's baseball team took a wild 10-9 nonleague win over Aragon-San Mateo on May 4. The Grizzlies' Daniel DeFazio was 2 for 3 with two triples, three runs scored and a stolen base. The Grizzlies also beat Livermore 2-1 on May 3 behind Nate D'Emilio's two-hitter.

  • North Coast Section Division I Tournament of Champions, boys golf, May 13, 8 a.m. -- De La Salle and Dublin will headline a strong cast of EBAL and DFAL representatives at Rooster Run Golf Course in Petaluma.

  • Granada at De La Salle, baseball, May 10, 4 p.m. -- The first-place Matadors will look for a season sweep of the defending NCS Division I champion Spartans.

  • Cory Thurman, Dublin baseball -- The senior had two RBIs as the Gaels beat Las Lomas 6-3 on May 2 to improve to a game above .500 in the DFAL (5-4) and overall (11-10).

  • Zach Guardino, California baseball -- The sophomore had the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh in a 2-1 victory over Livermore on May 3.

  • Bradley Gosiengfiao, Dougherty Valley baseball --The junior hit a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning to give the Wildcats a come-befrom-behind 6-4 win over Alhambra on May 2 in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League.

  • Mackenzie Murphy, Monte Vista softball -- The sophomore tossed a four-hitter as the Mustangs beat visiting Carondelet 3-1.
