Little League All-Stars
On July 10, the 90's Livermore All-Star team defeated 90's San Ramon to secure the District 57 title. In the three game series, Livermore, coached by Manny Fumero, lost the first game, then rallied for two consecutive wins.
The Livermore Little League Juniors and Seniors divisions have won the All-Star tournament championships for three consecutive years.
The Pleasanton Phantom II saved its best for the last tournament this summer, going 4-1 and finishing one win shy of making the 12-and-under championship game. Pool-play wins came over Burlingame (10-3), Folsom (11-10) and West Valley (5-3).
After opening Sunday with an 11-1 triumph over Burlingame, Phantom was eliminated by Cupertino 10-0. Emily Yamasaki, Kate Inman and Allie Simon each had two hits, Gianna Lyng scored three runs, and Aynslee Roberts went the distance in the debut win over Burlingame. Phantom rallied past Folsom as Inman's walk-off, RBI single scored Yamasaki, who went 3 for 3 with 4 RBI. Simon added two hits and three RBI while Emma Garman was 2 for 2 with two runs. Yamasaki, Lyng and Syd West had RBI singles in a four-run fifth inning to push Phantom past West Valley.
West pitched a complete game in that 5-3 win. Roberts allowed only one hit in Sunday's 11-1 rout of Burlingame. Madison Hildebrand had an RBI double and scored twice, Simon was 2 for 2 with three runs, and Haleigh Lopes doubled. In Phantom's elimination loss, Yamasaki and Lyng singled, and Inman drew a walk.
Overall, Yamaski was the Phantom's top hitter: 9 for 14, six runs and six RBI. Simon went 6 for 10 with five RBI and five runs; Lyng 6 for 12 with four runs; Inman 5 for 11 with four runs; and, Kirsten Sigua 5 for 9 and three runs. Also, Julia Camello drove in three runs and Sierra Gholston accounted for two RBI and two runs.
The Phantom played in five tournaments and were coached by Rob Hildebrand, Keith Roberts and Jay West.
The 14U girls LARPD Lazers had a strong performance in the Santa Cruz Classic on July 13-14, finishing in second place. Maddie David and Mia Battilega led the team in scoring. Emily Hawkins and Kelsey Mahurin racked up numerous steals to anchor the defense.
The 14U boys with a 1-2 record. Sean Croghan and Noah Petit led the Lazers in scoring. Jason Campbell also contributed several goals. Defensively, David Brooks had a great tournament, and Ian Herbert was solid as goalie.
The 16U boys team finished third (2-1) in the Santa Cruz Tournament. Andrew Kettenhoffen and Michael Brooks were the leading scorers, while Max Federle and Kettenhoffen led the team in steals. Jesse Farrens was huge in the cage with more than 40 blocks overall. Sean Croghan and Noah Petit played well for the 14U and 16U teams.
West Coast Fury
The West Coast Fury girls squad recently took the U-10 NorCal Premier championship of the Spring Cross Regional Playoffs in Davis. Fury, the No. 6 seed, won the final game in dramatic fashion on a golden goal by Kelena Brongiel in double-overtime to defeat FC Milpitas 3-2.
The Fury opened the weekend with a 2-1 win over highly regarded West Valley Magic, on goals by Laura Gonzales and Kelena Brongiel.
The Fury beat Placer United 1-0 victory in the semifinals, as Alyssa Garza scored with under 10 minutes remaining.
