OAKLAND -- A run and a candlelight vigil will be held Thursday to honor and support those affected by the bombings at the Boston Marathon, .

Bay Area sporting goods store See Jane Run has planned a three-mile run -- one mile for each victim -- for 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The run will depart from the store, located at 5817 College Avenue, and end at Snow Park.

Once runners reach the park, a moment of silence will be observed to honor those killed and injured in the marathon explosions.

"There are truly no words that can describe the horrific events we all witnessed Monday at the Boston Marathon," event organizers said in a statement on Facebook. "A truly celebrated event has been changed forever. The participants of the Boston Marathon, the people of Boston, and the city itself deserve to be recognized for their bravery in the wake of this terrible tragedy."

For those unable to run, organizers ask that they meet the running group at Snow Park at about 8 p.m. Anyone who can't make it to the Oakland event is simply asked to lace up their sneakers and go for a run at 7:30 p.m., wherever they are.

The organization also asked that runners wear blue or yellow and bring a flashlight for the vigil.
