High school graduations at Pavilion in Concord
High schools in the Mt. Diablo school district in Concord, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek will be holding commencement exercises at the Sleep Train Pavilion beginning June 10.
And the ceremony for students at necessary small high schools will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 10.
The Sleep Train Pavilion is located at 2000 Kirker Pass Road, Concord.
MDUSD provides a free summer food program
The Mt. Diablo Unified School District will provide meals for children 18 and younger for no cost during the summer.
Acceptance and participation requirements for the program are the same for all children. Meals will be provided on weekdays only from June 25-July 20. There will be no meals served on July 4.
Lunch and breakfast will be offered at the following
Breakfast: 8:50-9:30 a.m.
Lunch: 11:30 a.m.-noon

Summer reading in Concord, Pleasant Hill
Cal State East Bay's Division of Continuing Education will offer eight different reading skills programs for 4-year-olds through adults taught by instructors from the Institute of Reading Development.
Tuition and materials fees vary by program level.
The early summer session begins the week of June 11 and a late summer session begins the week of July 18.
The programs for younger students build comprehension, phonics and fluency skills. Programs offered for older students and adults are geared toward improving comprehension, study skills, vocabulary and speed reading.

Families sought to host exchange students
Host families are needed for incoming foreign exchange high school students. Students are 15-18 years old, are English-speaking, have their own spending money and carry health insurance.
Families can consist of a single parent, a childless couple or a retired couple.
Host families are eligible to claim a monthly charitable contribution deduction on their itemized tax returns for each month they host a sponsored student.
