Nick Ballentine, 13, of Martinez, won the 28-gauge 2012 Junior World Skeet Championship in the sub-junior class at the Stockton Trap and Skeet Club in July. In the sub-junior class -- participants up to 14 years old -- Nick scored a perfect 100 in the 28-gauge shooting event, and hit 99 of 100 targets in the 12-gauge category. He scored 96 in the 20-gauge event, and 93 in the 410-gauge class, finishing with a total overall score of 388 out of 400, and placing fifth in his class, noted his proud grandfather, Larry Myers. He practices at USI Ranges in Concord, which is managed by Steve McConnell. Nick is an eighth-grader at Valley View Middle School and the son of Christine and Curtis Ballentine.
