At the annual Mutt Strutt, Mychael Carroll, 8, from Martinez, top, has a hard time letting her dog, Ballerina, know that their moment in front of the judges is over. But Mychael and Ballerina waltzed away with the Best Name title at the Sept. 13 event at the John Muir Amphitheatre in Martinez. Chachee, above, owned by Deb Vanes of Martinez, is dressed as a chef, while canine pal Izzy May, owned by Waneta Ellis, also of Martinez, puts her best "hot dog" in front of judges, who declared them as winners of the Best Costume. Other winners were Baxter, who took the title of Fastest Tail; Austin, who Looks Most Like Owner, Colton Walker; and Laura Maria's dogs, including Gabby, whose Best Trick was chasing a ball, and Mr. Pickle, who won for Best Tail. Judges were Katie Rones, Dawn Surges, Karen Oliver from Bring Rover Over, Joy Holland from Martinez Petco and Dr. Darrell Schawel from Sage Emergency Veterinary Hospital.
