Keeping with the John Muir tradition of storytelling, the National Park Service will be holding story time programs monthly at the John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez.

The first story time will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 2, and feature the story of Stickeen -- how Muir survived the night in the Alaskan wild with a small dog. Story times will continue the first Sunday of every month.

Muir used to tell his daughters stories around the dinner table, and rangers invite children and families to listen to some of Muir's greatest adventure stories to help keep his tradition alive.

After story time, visitors can stay for the regularly scheduled 2 p.m. house tour. The Muir site is located at 4202 Alhambra Ave., Martinez, and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Call 925-228-8860.
