The Martinez Red Sox Major Girls softball team took home the Little League District 4 Tournament of Champions of Contra Costa County title with a 12-2 victory over the Pinole/Hercules team at the June 21 tournament, at Clayton Valley Charter High School in Concord.

With its win, the Red Sox team was the first in the history of the Martinez Little League Major Girls to have an undefeated season and win the championship.

Home run scoring, timely hitting, good baserunning and solid pitching were all factors in the victory. The Red Sox got the early lead in the first inning and never relinquished it, tacking on runs in the second, third, fifth and a whopping six runs in the sixth inning.

Members of the Martinez Red Sox Major girls championship team are Derica Boyd, Sienna Dobson, Sady James, Lauren King, Aleija Lewis, Marissa Moore, Nicole Nelson, Julia Parks, Karenna Rosselli, Hanna Ruvalcaba, Mimi Vo and Brianna Waters. Managing the team is Phil Raines, with coaches Rich King and Steve Moore.

The team will stay together to play in the All-Stars representing Martinez.
