At the John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez, visitors walk the grounds during Family Fun Days. The summertime program gives families a chance to connect with nature and experience aspects of Victorian life, like Sean Kratz, 5, of Martinez, left, who plays a barrel hoop game. The last event of the summer is Aug. 24, and visitors might participate in practicing calligraphy with quills and ink, listening to storybook readings or playing croquet and horseshoes. They are also invited to bring a lunch and picnic on the grounds.
