MARTINEZ -- A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug and weapons crimes Sunday after officers discovered more than 11 pounds of illegal drugs and several loaded assault weapons inside his Martinez home.

Police arrested Mario Ruben Pando at his home in the 2100 block of Valente Court after officers responding to reports of gunshots about 5 p.m. obtained a warrant to search his house, Martinez Police Lt. Aaron Roth said. Authorities discovered that several shots were fired on the quiet cul-de-sac, and quickly gathered enough information to trace the incident back to Pando's home.

According to Roth, officers found more than a pound of methamphetamine, 10 pounds of marijuana and several loaded guns including an AK-47 style assault rifle inside of Pando's home. He was arrested during the search warrant on suspicion of various drug and weapons crimes.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact Martinez police at 925-372-3436.
