MARTINEZ -- A Martinez woman charged with killing her mother pleaded not guilty Thursday.
Christy Lee Southwick, 53, is charged with murder and inflicting great bodily injury on an elder adult in the death of her 74-year-old mother.
Police say Southwick called 911 shortly before 5 p.m. on Feb. 16 to report the crime, and that she wanted to turn herself in. Police responding to Southwick's home in the 1500 block of Azalea Avenue found the body of Lajean Southwick inside.
Christy Southwick is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Her next court appearance will be April 8. She faces 27 years to life in state prison.
