Lakeshore hosting annual Easter parade
Lakeshore Avenue merchants and the Lakeshore Baptist Church are holding the 26th Annual Easter Derby (hat) Parade and Decorating Contest and Spring Festival on March 30.
The church, 3534 Lakeshore, will start by offering last-minute derby decorating from 10 to 11 a.m., when the parade starts, heading out from the church and down Lakeshore Avenue. Judges will offer prizes for the best hats in age appropriate categories at the end of the parade. The church and the merchants will offer free refreshments, egg decorating and fun along with face painting and a basket of goodies for each participant from toddlers to age 13.
The derby hats will be available for purchase at Silver Lining Jewelry, Silver Moon Kids, George's Cleaners, Flipside Burgers, or Adventure Toys for $2 on the avenue. People are encouraged to use recycled items to decorate your hats. Whimsy will be rewarded.
Morcom Rose Garden benefit set for Tuesday
The Deadheaders' Garden Gala, a benefit for the Morcom Rose Garden and a sneak preview of the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the San Mateo Event Center, 2595 S. Delaware St., San Mateo.

The garden is cared for by a group of 20 to 30 volunteers called The Dedicated Deadheaders Proceeds will be used to replace dead rose bushes, purchase fertilizer and mulch (no insecticides are used in this biodynamic garden), hand tools, work gloves, and additional vests that the volunteers tie dye themselves.
Many organizations were considered, but the Morcom Rose Garden was chosen as the beneficiary of the opening night of the 28th annual San Francisco Flower and Garden Show.
Tickets may be purchased online until days before the event at www.DeadheadersGardenGala.BrownPaperTickets.com or at the door. Each one includes an additional entry later in the week to SFFGS. Price is $100 in advance or $125 at the door.
Additional donations may be made to the Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation, a 501(c)(3) with 'Morcom Rose Garden Fund' noted on the memo line.

Redwood Day School to host parent ed event
Redwood Day School has an upcoming free parent education event titled "Raising Resilient Girls" with Simone Marean of the Girls Leadership Institute.
Simone Marean is the executive director and co-founder of the internationally recognized Girls Leadership Institute. She will share how to help girls practice assertive self- expression, emotional intelligence and healthy relationships, preparing them for a life of personal and societal leadership. Her presentation will cover the development of girl dynamics beginning in preschool through high school.
The event will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 4 at Redwood Day School, 3245 Sheffield Ave., Oakland.
This event is free and open to the community. The event is open only to adults. Redwood Day School will provide limited, free child care available with RSVP for Redwood Day students only.
