MORAGA -- A benefit run/walk, "Jill's Legacy: Jog for Jill St. Mary's," to raise money for lung cancer research, takes place Saturday, Oct. 13 on the campus of Saint Mary's College in Moraga. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., with a shotgun start planned for 11.

Twenty-five members of the Saint Mary's Women's Rowing team are helping organize this event, and team member Christina Bennett said they hope for at least 300 participants.

Jill Costello, a nonsmoker, was a UC Berkeley coxswain for UC Berkeley's rowing team. She died of lung cancer in 2010 at the age of 22. One of Costello's dreams, Bennett said, was to help find a cure for lung cancer. Jill's Legacy was founded to bring awareness to this most deadly form of cancer, with a 15.5 percent survival rate.

Day-of event activities include great music, fun prizes and giveaways along with awards for the top fundraising individuals and teams.

The website for registration is www.jogforjillstmarys.com. The cost is $15 for students, youths and seniors, and $25 general registration.
