LAFAYETTE -- PG&E workers remained at the scene of a solo-car crash Tuesday morning that damaged a power pole and shut down one lane on a major road that connects the Lamorinda community, authorities said.
The crash happened around 1:50 a.m. on Moraga Road, just north of Sky Hy Road, police said. The driver severed the pole, and the car rolled down an embankment. The driver was taken to a hospital with injuries, the severity of which were not known immediately, authorities said.
A portion of one lane of Moraga Road remained closed all Tuesday morning and was not expected to be reopened until later Tuesday evening, because of the repairs needed to the pole, PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said. The road runs from Lafayette through Moraga and into Orinda.
More than 2,850 customers lost their power because of the wreck, but PG&E restored power to all of them within an hour, Sarkissian said.
