Update: A 20-mile stretch of Highway 1 in Big Sur will remain closed Christmas Day because of a rockslide Sunday at Partington Ridge Road.
The highway is shut just south of the Deetjens Big Sur Inn (mile marker 42) and at Lucia (mile marker 23). Caltrans hopes to have one lane reopened by the end of the week.
The road was reopened at Ragged Point on Dec. 24.
Original press release from Caltrans, Dec 24:

There is no estimated time of opening. Crews are working to assess damage and begin cleanup. Alternative routes for motorists are Highways 68, 101, 46 and Nacimiento-Fergusson Road.
