Alameda man killed in Benicia car crash

Benicia police say an Alameda man was killed June 30 when a vehicle that he was driving crashed during a photo shoot.

Paul Peterson was speeding and not wearing a seat belt when he crashed into a building in the 5000 block of Gateway Plaza Drive in the industrial park area of Benicia about 5 p.m., according to police.

Peterson collided with a concrete trash bin enclosure at the rear of the building. The force of the impact resulted in Peterson striking his head on a cement wall.

The vehicle he was driving -- a Special Construction AC Cobra -- sustained major damage.

Peterson was driving the AC Cobra for a photo shoot at Special Sales Classics located at 5302 Gateway Plaza Drive.

He was an employee of the company and did not own the vehicle, according to the Vallejo Times Herald.

Peterson was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he died a few hours after the collision, police said.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27

RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE -- Police recovered a vehicle about 6:55 p.m. at Santa Clara Avenue and Lafayette Street that was reported stolen in Hayward.

THURSDAY, JUNE 28

BURGLARY -- Break-ins of two storage units on West Oriskany Avenue were reported, police said. The first burglary was reported at 2:20 p.m. while the second was reported about 3:45 p.m.

GRAND THEFT -- The theft of a jet ski and trailer was reported about 11:35 a.m. in the 1300 block of Park Street.

RESISTING POLICE -- A man who patrol officers initially contacted while investigating a burglary report was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication. The man, 49, also was accused of violating a domestic violence court order and obstructing police after he allegedly lunged at the officers and ignored their commands. The arrest occurred just after 11 p.m. in the 1800 block of Hibbard Street.

SATURDAY, JUNE 30

BURGLARY -- Police arrested a man, 56, on suspicion of burglary after officers said he broke a living room window and entered a residence in the 2200 block of San Jose Avenue. The arrest occurred about 4:50 p.m. outside the residence.

PAROLE VIOLATION -- A parolee who was initially detained by Harbor Bay Isle security during a theft investigation was carrying drug paraphernalia, police said. The 53-year-old man, who was arrested about 6:40 p.m. in the 800 block of Island Drive, also was wanted on a warrant, police said.

SUNDAY. JULY 1

DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 24, on suspicion of drunken driving shortly after 2:10 a.m. at Everett Street and Santa Clara Avenue, where officers said he failed field sobriety tests before he was taken into custody.

VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 7:45 a.m. in the 1700 block of Nason Street. Police also said a vehicle was reported stolen just after 11 a.m. in the 100 block of Nottingham Drive.

BURGLARY -- Someone cut a lock off a storage unit in the 1800 block of Webster Street and stole items from inside, police said. The break-in was reported about 1:35 p.m. Another burglary was reported at the same address about 4:30 p.m.

COUNTERFEIT MONEY -- A resident of the 1200 block of Central Avenue told police about 5:40 p.m. that someone passed a counterfeit bill during a garage sale.

BURGLARY -- A burglar entered a residence in the 1000 block of Taylor Avenue via an open window, police said. The burglary was reported about 8:35 p.m.
