Traffic on southbound Interstate 880 was slowed to a crawl Friday night after a truck collided with some barrels along the center divide, spilling debris on the freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
The 9:37 p.m. wreck involved a white Dodge Durango and happened just south of Hegenberger Road, Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said. The barrels, which contain sand, are near the center divide to deter speeding drivers and serve as a soft barrier in the event of a crash.
After the wreck, the two left lanes were blocked. Caltrans workers were at the scene cleaning up the mess. No serious injuries were suffered by any of the people involved in the accident, Van Eckhardt said.
The CHP issued an alert for drivers to proceed with caution at 9:50 p.m. It was not known when the alert would be lifted.
