OAKLAND - A man fatally shot Saturday night in North Oakland not far from Childrens Hospital was identified by police Sunday as Lorenzo Ward, 29.
The shooting happened about 9:16 p.m. Saturday in the 800 block of 53rd Street near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and about 1 1/2 blocks from the main entrance to Childrens Hospital on 52nd Street.
Police said Ward had addresses and family in the area but at least one person told them he also had a residence in Richmond.
Police believe Ward was by himself when someone approached him and shot him. He died at the scene.
The motive for the killing is unknown and no arrests have been made.
The killing was Oakland's 81st homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 79 homicides in the city.
There were also three non-fatal shootings Saturday night in East Oakland where the victims were able to either drive themselves to a hospital or get a ride from someone, police said. All three were in stable condition.
A man was shot about 11 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 96th Avenue and Birch Street. No motive was released and no arrests have been made.
A man was shot about 10:46 p.m. Saturday in the 8300 block of Bancroft Avenue, possibly during a robbery. Two suspects are being sought.
And at 9:50 p.m. a man was shot in the 3400 block of Davis Street. The motive is unknown and the gunman fled on foot.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killing suspect and up to $5,000 in reward money in each of the other three shootings.
