OAKLAND -- A phone report of a man with a gun at a busy downtown intersection Tuesday afternoon prompted a large police search that failed to turn up any suspects, authorities said.
Police are trying to determine if the call was bogus, since no one else reported seeing anything.
A man using a cell phone called authorities about 1:35 p.m. claiming he had seen a white man wearing a flannel shirt and shorts brandishing a gun at the intersection of 12th Street and Broadway.
No other reports were made but at least a dozen officers, some with rifles, searched the area, including some businesses and City Center without finding a suspect or anyone else who saw the man.
The search was called off at 1:50 p.m. Police were trying to locate the original caller.
