September is Senior Pet Adoption Month at the Alameda Animal Shelter. Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter is adopting out all animals 7 and older for free.
"What you see is what you get" with adult dogs and cats who have grown into their size and personality. Adult dogs don't require frequent potty breaks that are needed by puppies. Adult cats have less tendency to climb your curtains and rip-roar through their newfound territory.
Older dogs and cats also focus well and therefore learn quickly.
Many settle in easily because they have learned what it means to get along with others and become part of the pack. They are more likely to quickly adapt to their owners' schedules.
Lastly, older pets are grateful to have a home and family who will love them. Older animals adopted from FAAS have been health screened, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Most importantly, you are giving adult dogs and cats a home and a second chance for a wonderful life with you.
Please go visit all the homeless pets at the Alameda Animal Shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda. The hours are Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit the shelter website at www.alamedaanimalshelter.org.
SHELTER GALA: After The Ball is coming up fast! The second annual shelter gala is being held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
PET OF THE WEEK: Nala is an all-black cat with tons of character. She has a short tail, narrow panther-like face and loves to be brushed and nap in patches of sun. She's been waiting patiently for just the right folks to adopt her. Could that be you?
DOG ALLEY: The shelter has 15 dogs and puppies available for adoption. Tales is a 1-year-old white Lhasa apso/poodle mix that is extremely cute and smart. He's got a lot of energy to give his new permanent owner. Akika is a 3-year-old tan miniature pinscher mix with a most amazing face. She's a real sweetheart.
CAT LAIR SENIORS: The shelter has 48 cats and kittens available for adoption. Boo Boo is a mature gal with a funny name that's looking for a quiet sunny spot in your home. She loves attention and will be your purr-fect companion. Katy is a beautiful black-and-white cat about 10 years old that's looking for her new owner. She's full of "catness."
RABBIT ROW: George and Gracie are a beautiful black-and-white pair. Dutch is a dwarf bunny that needs some special care. He's a great little guy. Fatty Bob, George and Gracie's baby, is a sweet young bunny.
