PIEDMONT -- Police are still searching for two robbers who targeted a teacher near Beach Elementary School, where they brandished a handgun before they stole a bag that contained her wallet and other personal items.
The woman was not hurt during the Sept. 11 robbery, police said, and investigators are now reviewing other recent street robberies, especially in nearby Oakland neighborhoods, in their search for possible suspects.
The teacher had worked late on the campus and was parked in the 100 block of Lake Avenue, Piedmont police Detective George Phifer said Wednesday.
When she had difficulty starting her vehicle, the woman began walking east on Greenbank Avenue, where the two suspects confronted her just before 8 p.m., Phifer said.
One displayed a black revolver while the second grabbed her bag. The suspects fled in a silver or gray two-door vehicle that was last seen traveling on Grand Avenue toward Pleasant Valley Road.
The male robbers were wearing dark clothing and sweatshirts, including one with a hoody, police said. The victim described one suspect as an adult and one as 17 or 18 years old.
Anyone who has information about the robbery is asked to call Piedmont police Detective George Phifer at 510-420-3013.
