Albany dominates Cougar Challenge
The Albany High girls volleyball team went 7-0 in the Cougar Challenge on Sept. 15 to improve its record to 15-1. In its final match of the tournament, Albany beat Redwood 25-23, 25-20. The Cougars did not lose one game in the tournament, as it faced Monte Vista two times, Head-Royce two times, Miramonte and Berkeley in addition to Redwood.-- Staff
Highlanders triumph
The Piedmont High girls water polo team was victorious in the Contra Costa Invitational final with a 9-7 victory over Ukiah to improve its record to 7-0. Hannah Mooney scored a team-high four goals in the final, and had 16 goals in the team's four matches in the invite, which the Highlanders won by a combined score of 59-14. -- Staff
Pilots take another two
The St. Joseph Notre Dame High girls volleyball team improved its record to 8-1 with a 25-13, 25-11, 25-14 victory over Urban-San Francisco on Sept. 11. Alexandra Oilar passed for 10 assists, and both Rebecca Langowski and Phoebe Grunt had five kills. On Sept. 10, the Pilots defeated International 25-12, 25-15, 25-6. Oilar had 11 assists, Alison Ganci had 10 digs, and Grunt slammed nine kills and served 11 aces. -- Staff
Globetrotters sign
Skyline grad The Harlem Globetrotters announced on Sept. 18 that they signed Skyline High grad Tammy "T-Time" Brawner. The 5-foot-6 Brawner becomes one of only 11 females to ever play for the Globetrotters. As a senior at Dominican University of California, Brawner led the team in steals and was second in scoring, assists and field goal percentage. -- Staff

El Cerrito vs. Valley Christian-Dublin at Chabot College, football, Sept. 21, 7 p.m. -- The Gauchos will put their undefeated record on the line against the Vikings (4-0), who have outscored their opponents 170-37 this season. Alameda at Hillsdale, football, Sept. 21, 7 p.m. -- The Hornets will try to end their losing streak with a non-section matchup against the 0-3 Knights. Oakland Tech at Arroyo, football, Sept. 22, 1:30 p.m. -- The Bulldogs will try to keep their offense revved up -- they have scored at least 20 points in all three of their games this season. Marshon Ardoin, El Cerrito football -- Ardoin scored 14 of the Gauchos' 16 points, including the game-winning two-point conversion run, in El Cerrito's 16-14 victory over previously undefeated Campolindo on Sept. 14. All of his touchdowns were in the second half, and he also rushed for a game-high 77 yards on 15 carries. Aiden Shockley, St. Mary's football -- Shockley rushed for 129 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers defeated Albany 42-12 on Sept. 15. Kenyon Jackson, Oakland Tech football -- Jackson caught six passes for 103 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown reception, in the Bulldogs' 57-20 loss to Pitman-Turlock on Sept. 14. Devon Lodge, Alameda girls volleyball -- Lodge slammed 18 kills and had 10 digs and three aces in the Hornets' 25-8, 22-25, 25-14, 18-25, 15-6 victory over Encinal on Sept. 11. She also had five kills and five assists in a 25-18, 25-18, 25-10 loss to Castro Valley on Sept. 13.
