A man and woman whom Alameda police officers initially contacted because their vehicle was facing the wrong way on a street and blocking traffic were arrested after a routine background check showed both were wanted on felony warrants.
The 44-year-old man was also in possession of suspected methamphetamine, police said.
Along with arresting the man about 1:50 a.m. Sunday, police arrested the woman, 46, who was with him at the scene in the 2400 block of Clement Avenue.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 13 BURGLARY -- Scrap copper wire and pipes were reported stolen during a burglary in the 2100 block of Ferry Point at Alameda Point. The thief forced open a door to get inside the building and gain access to the material, police said. The break-in was reported at 5:45 a.m. A burglar also broke into a storage shed in the 1900 block of Sherman Street, according to police, who learned about the incident at 10:25 a.m. Police said a residential burglary was reported at 1:50 p.m. in the 2100 block of Santa Clara Avenue, where someone broke into several storage lockers. Other recent burglary cases include the theft of a laptop and its bag, a computer hard drive and money from a residence in the 700 block of Central Avenue, police said. That burglary was reported about 2:10 p.m. VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 6:50 a.m. in the 2800 block of Lincoln Avenue. Vehicles were also reported stolen at 1:15 p.m. in the 2100 block of Clement Avenue and about 20 minutes later in the 2300 block of Mariner Square Drive, where a box trailer was stolen.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 14 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 11:40 a.m. in the 1800 block of Poggi Street.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 15 ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON -- Police are investigating a report that a man was stabbed once in the upper rib cage outside the Island Paradise Club on Webster Street after he was allegedly involved in a fight inside the business. The man fled the area in a vehicle and later took himself to the emergency room at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland. The assault was reported about 5:45 a.m. BURGLARY -- A burglary was reported just before 9 a.m. in the 1700 block of Everett Street. Police also said the burglary of a garage in the 1300 block of Fountain Street was reported about 1:30 p.m. ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFT -- Someone who tried to steal a motorcycle in the 2400 block of Shoreline Drive stole saddle bags from the vehicle before fleeing the scene, police said. The would-be thief, who tampered with the ignition and disengaged the steering wheel lock, also damaged the fenders and cut a rear strap on the motorcycle, police said. The attempt was reported about 9:30 a.m. Police also said a vehicle was reported stolen shortly before 10 p.m. in the 1900 block of Otis Drive. ROBBERY -- Three suspects stole a woman's purse and cell phone about 9:50 p.m. at Chapin Street and Buena Vista Avenue, where one of the robbers simulated having a weapon, police said. The robbers fled on foot. The case remains under investigation.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 16 BURGLARY -- Jewelry was reported stolen about 7:25 p.m. during a burglary in the 1000 block of Easter Lane, police said. DEFRAUDING AN INNKEEPER -- A customer at La Penca Azul on Park Street left the business without paying their bill, police said. The incident was reported about 11:40 p.m.
MONDAY, SEPT. 17 MARITIME RESCUE -- The U.S. Coast Guard helped five boaters reach safety after their vessel became grounded just before 7 a.m. in the Oakland-Alameda Estuary. The boat was left secured along the shore. VANDALISM -- Someone slashed all four tires of two vehicles that were parked in the 1700 block of Broadway, police said. The vandalism was reported about 9:20 a.m. A single family owns both vehicles. MARIJUANA POSSESSION -- A man who patrol officers detained after receiving a report that his vehicle was suspicious was carrying suspected marijuana and hashish packaged for sale, police said. The man, 18, was also allegedly in possession of a digital scale, which police said was evidence of narcotics dealing. The man was arrested just after 1 p.m. in the 1600 block of Wood Street.
