REDWOOD CITY -- A boy's baptism party turned bloody Saturday when one man, believing his wife had been disrespected, stabbed another during a fight, police said Monday.
Officers arrested Yazmani Moreno Ramirez, 28, of San Mateo County, in connection with the stabbing that happened around 10:20 p.m. at the Highland Community Club on Fernside Street. The victim, a 24-year-old Redwood City man whose name was not released, is expected to recover from the wounds to his abdomen and left forearm, Redwood City police Sgt. Sean Hart said.
The suspect told police the violence was sparked by the victim, who allegedly made offensive remarks to the suspect's wife, Hart said. The men argued on the dance floor before the fighting started. Someone who called police said several people were fighting including some armed with sticks and another holding a knife.
Ramirez was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
