Community menorah lightings will be held in Livermore and Pleasanton on Saturday and Monday to celebrate Hannukah, the eight-day festival of lights.
Saturday's event will be at 7:30 p.m. in front of the Bankhead Theater in downtown Livermore, 2400 1st St. Mayor John Marchand will help light the menorah to mark the beginning of Hannukah.
The Chabad of the Tri-Valley sponsored event will include traditional holiday foods -- doughnuts and latkes -- live music and entertainment for children.
On Monday, the third night of Hannukah, Chabad will host the 8th annual "Hannukah Wonderland" at the center of Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton.
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. there will be holiday games and crafts, live music, Hannukah treats and at 6:30 p.m. will be a ceremony to light the "Menorah of Giving."
The nine-foot menorah is made of clear PVC pipes and will be filled with coins and bills
collected over the past few weeks by members of the Jewish community. After Hannukah, the money will be given to local charities.
