SAN LEANDRO -- Two people are behind bars after they led police on a car chase then hid from officers to avoid arrest.
Around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, two San Leandro officers saw a car commit a traffic infraction on Durant Avenue, near East 14th Street.
When officers attempted to pull over the car to enforce the violation, the driver failed to stop. The driver then led police on a short pursuit before he hit a curb.
The driver and a passenger -- Oakland residents John Allen Jr., 26, and 25-year-old Ezekiel Taylor -- ran from the vehicle and the officers pursued them.
One of the suspects was seen grabbing onto his waistband and making movements that suggested he had a gun, officers said. A witness later confirmed she saw one of the suspects running with a gun.
Police officers descended on the area and set up a perimeter around Durant Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, according to a San Leandro police news release.
One of the suspects was arrested on 108th Avenue.
Members from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Oakland Police Department and BART Police Department also responded to help with a K-9 search.
Nearly two hours later, the second suspect was found hiding by a BART K-9 unit and search team.
Allen and Taylor both had no-bail arrest warrants and were booked for resisting arrest.
