A 32-year-old Alameda man was arrested Aug. 1 in connection with a string of sophisticated marijuana grow houses in Tracy, police said.
Loc Nguyen was arrested by officers from Tracy and Alameda at a home on the 1800 block of Chestnut Street, according to police.
Authorities identified 15 residential homes in Tracy that had been gutted and wired to grow hundreds of marijuana plants indoors. One home bypassed utility meters to avoid paying more than $60,000 in electrical costs over several months, according to Tracy police Sgt. Alex Neicu.
Nguyen has been tied to four of the homes, police said.
The Alameda resident was booked into San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana and theft of utilities, both felonies, according to police. Nguyen, a Vietnamese citizen, was placed on a no-bail U.S. Border Patrol hold.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 31 DRUG POSSESSION -- A traffic stop in the 600 block of Taylor Avenue led to the arrest of a 24-year-old motorist after an officer spotted a hydrocodone pill as he was handing over his driver's license, police said. The man, who was arrested about 6:35 p.m., was also driving with a suspended license, police said.
THURSDAY, AUG. 1 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 12:25 p.m. in the 2200 block of Alameda South Shore Center. OUTSTANDING WARRANT -- An officer found brass knuckles while searching a 22-year-old man after he was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant in the 1600 block of Stanton Street about 2:30 p.m. IDENTITY THEFT -- A resident of Oyster Pond Road reported identity theft about 3:10 p.m. Identity theft was also reported at 3:15 p.m. on Crolls Garden Court.
FRIDAY, AUG. 2 MARIJUANA POSSESSION -- Police arrested a woman, 23, on suspicion of possessing marijuana while investigating the report of a disturbance in the 1400 block of Park Street. The woman, who was arrested about 1:40 a.m., was released at the scene with a citation. OUTSTANDING WARRANT -- A motorist, 30, was arrested at 12:25 p.m. following a traffic stop in the 700 block of Buena Vista Avenue, where a background check revealed he was driving with a suspended license and was wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, police said. UNDER THE INFLUENCE -- Police arrested a 41-year-old man in the 2200 block of Buena Vista Avenue after he allegedly exhibited symptoms of the influence of narcotics. The man, who was also carrying less than one ounce of marijuana, failed a field test for drug use before he was arrested at 3:30 p.m, police said. VEHICLE THEFT -- A motorcycle was reported stolen about 7:20 p.m. in the 900 block of Shorepoint Court. DRUG POSSESSION -- An Alameda officer recognized a man who was wanted for violating his parole at Fruitvale Avenue and 77th Street in Oakland and arrested him, police said. The 40-year-old man was in possession of heroin and methamphetamine when he was arrested about 10:30 p.m.
SATURDAY, AUG. 3 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 8:50 a.m. in the 1500 block of Central Avenue. OUTSTANDING WARRANT -- A man wanted on an outstanding felony warrant from the FBI was arrested about 5:10 p.m. in the 300 block of Park Street, police said. The man, 34, faces weapons and narcotics charges, police said.
SUNDAY, AUG. 4 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen at 10:45 a.m. in the 1300 block of Ballena Boulevard. DRUG PARAPHERNALIA -- Officers dispatched to investigate a report of a suspicious person just before 6 p.m. arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia. An officer found the glass pipe while searching the man as was taken into custody on suspicion of public intoxication, police said. BURGLARY -- Someone stole copper wire after breaking a window and entering a building in the 1100 block of West Redline Avenue. The theft was reported at 11:40 p.m.
MONDAY, AUG. 5 UNDER THE INFLUENCE -- Police arrested a cyclist, 25, following a traffic stop after he allegedly showed symptoms of being high on narcotics. The man, who was arrested about 5 a.m. in the 2200 block of Buena Vista Avenue, was also accused of possessing suspected cannabis, methamphetamine and psilocybin. Another man, 42, was arrested about 2:50 a.m. in the 2200 block of Santa Clara Avenue, where police said he was spotted dropping a glass narcotics pipe on the ground.
