Wente Lobster Clambake to help performing arts

The Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center will hold a Lobster Clambake fundraiser Sept. 14 at Wente Vineyards.

The event includes a New England-style lobster clambake, wines, live music and silent and live auctions. It begins at 5 p.m. at Wente, 5050 Arroyo Road in Livermore. Tickets are $135; tables for eight cost $1,080. Tickets are sold at the Bankhead Theater box office, 2400 First St.

Proceeds will benefit the Performing Arts Center and the operation of Bankhead Theater and Bothwell Arts Center. For details, visit www.mylvpac.com.

Sept. 21 music festival to benefit at-risk youth

ABC Music Store in Livermore will host "ABC Music Live!," a Sept. 21 music festival to raise money for local at-risk and disadvantaged youth.

The event -- held from 1 to 9 p.m. at the store, 2156 First St. -- will feature eight performers, raffle prizes, food and drinks. All proceeds will benefit Music Pathways, a new program that teaches music to Livermore teens for free.

Guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, cupcakes and muffins and a dinner including one glass of wine, with additional wine available for sale. Raffle prizes will include a $499 Voyage-Air folding guitar, sports memorabilia, gift certificates, movie passes, jewelry, and more. Raffle tickets are $10 for four; the guitar raffle is $20 for five tickets.

Four-week course starts soon on hospice care

Hope Hospice is offering a four-week course on hospice care, to be held Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 12 through Oct. 3.

The course will provide information on the holistic, team approach of hospice care. There will also be speakers on end-of-life topics and presentations on pain and symptom control, predeath crisis intervention, spiritual care and the difference between adult grief and children's grief.

There is a $50 fee for materials. The deadline to register is Thursday. For details, visit www.HopeHospice.com. The course is also good for licensed nurses, social workers and therapists, who may obtain 12 hours of continuing education units for a fee of $75.
