Boys 10U-AAA Division
The Bay Area United Baseball Club (www.baubaseball.com), 10U youth travel baseball team based in Dublin and Hayward, recently returned from San Diego as champions of the Xtreme Baseball World Series. The Xtreme World Series is a tournament that features over 140 teams from various North American states and U.S. territories. Bay Area United competed against nationally ranked teams from Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Texas.
In the playoff rounds, Bay United bested its opponents by a combined score of 18-7 thanks to stellar pitching by Matthew Hallgrimson and Anthony Armendariz, timely hitting by Avantae Spikener, Dylan Cole, Dylan Singh, Justin Lynch, Karson Jordan, Nick Bacura, Samad Ali, and Ty Aldridge, and solid team defense.
In its opening playoff game, Bay United held back the Kahala Warriors of Hawaii, highlighted by a 250-foot home run by Spikener and a four-hit outing by Hallgrimson. Matched against perennial powerhouse, the San Diego Longhorns, Bay United rode a seven-strikeout performance by Armendariz to reach the championship.
In the finals, Bay Area United faced off against the top-seeded Bombers Baseball Club of Marin. Bay United jumped out to a 4-2 lead and held off the Bombers to preserve the win. Hallgrimson was once again dominate on the mound, allowing just three hits, and he was also backed by an error-free defensive effort.
In a tournament dominated by Southern California teams, Bay Area United secured its first championship in its first season of tournament play. Bay Area United is managed by Cris Aldridge and Derick Lynch, both former local collegiate baseball players.
