Eagle Scout Announced: Timothy Somers, son of Kathy and Chris Somers, of Alamo, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which was presented on Aug. 24. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 216, under the leadership of Scoutmasters Tom Absher and Thor Grosson.

For his Eagle community service project, he organized a blood drive at the Alamo Women's Club and the Blood Centers of the Pacific. After placing notices in newspapers, online newsletters and daily school emails he created posters that were put up with other Scouts' help.

On the blood drive day, Scouts helped set up tables, chairs and pop-ups around the blood mobile. Other Scouts worked the registration table to help people fill out their paperwork, and some directed parking and offered cold water and cookies to waiting donors. In six hours, 23 pints of blood were donated.
