Moore places second at Ed Sias Invitational St. Mary's High distance star Spencer Moore finished second in the Small School Varsity Girls race at the Ed Sias Invitational on Sept. 14 at Hidden Lakes Park in Martinez. Moore produced a time of 12 minutes, 11.5 seconds for the 2.0 mile course, leading the Panthers to a seventh-place team finish. Brighie Leach of Campolindo won the race in 11:37.9.
Highlanders shut out Hornets in tennis The Piedmont High girls tennis team won all of its matches in straight sets for a 7-0 victory over Alameda in West Alameda County Conference play on Sept. 12. In the closest singles match of the day, Kaelli Thiel defeated Ebony Qualls 7-6 (3), 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match.
Parker leads Jets past Rodriguez-Fairfield Jordan Parker scored three touchdowns as the host Jets got off to a fast start on their way to a 42-13 victory over Rodriguez-Fairfield on Sept. 13. Parker scored on a 5-yard run, a 75-yard punt return and a 38-yard pass reception. Taivale Tautalatasi also gave a strong performance for the Jets (2-0) with the touchdown pass to Parker and another for 60 yards to Kezeri Morrow. Encinal scored the first three times it touched the ball for a 21-0 lead. The 2-0 Jets will face a stiff challenge when they host Serra-San Mateo on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

Serra-San Mateo at Encinal, football, Sept. 20, 7 p.m. -- The Jets will host a Serra squad that gave powerhouse De La Salle all it could handle before losing 21-14 on Sept. 7.
Stars of the week Travis Dennis, Berkeley football -- Dennis caught three passes for 112 yards, including a 75-yarder, and scored two touchdowns in the Yellowjackets' 42-6 win over San Mateo on Sept. 13. Liam Godfrey, St. Mary's football -- Godfrey caught seven catches for 152 yards and four touchdowns in the Panthers' 49-7 win over Riordan-San Francisco on Sept. 14. Adarius Pickett, El Cerrito football -- The UCLA commit blocked a field goal and returned the ball 70 yards for a game-turning touchdown in the Gauchos' 35-7 win over host Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa on Sept. 14. He also scored on a 5-yard run. Rebecca Langowski, St. Joseph Notre Dame girls volleyball -- The junior outside hitter was named the Most Valuable Player of the George Mark Children's House tournament at Alameda on Sept. 14. In the Pilots' final match of the day, Langowski had seven kills, six digs and three aces as St. Joseph Notre Dame beat Clayton Valley Charter 29-27, 25-12 for the Gold Division championship. Jordan Parker, Encinal football -- Parker scored touchdowns in three different ways in the Jets' 42-13 win over Rodriguez-Fairfield on Sept. 13. He reached the end zone on a 5-yard run, a 75-yard punt return and a 38-yard pass reception. Eric Thomas, Oakland Tech football -- Thomas rushed for 150 yards and scored five touchdowns in the Bulldogs' 49-6 victory over Balboa-S.F. on Sept. 13. He gained all of his rushing yardage on only seven carries. Gabe Watson, Piedmont football -- The sophomore had a game to remember, as he scored six touchdowns and had 333 all-purpose yards, including 135 rushing yards, in a 44-16 victory over Albany on Sept. 13.
