The Berkeley High passing combination of Anthony McMath to Travis Dennis provided all the scoring in a physical 14-0 football victory over Hayward in a West Alameda County Conference-Foothill Division game on Oct. 11.

The game was deadlocked at zero until the third quarter.

"(At halftime), we were talking about that we had to get on the board quick," Dennis said.

The host Yellowjackets (3-3, 1-0 WACC-Foothill) drove 59 yards on their first possession of the second half to score on a 16-yard pass from McMath to Dennis. The drive lasted nearly four minutes.

McMath, starting his first varsity game at quarterback, connected with Dennis on a 60-yard touchdown pass with 9 minutes, 23 seconds remaining. Dennis then ran in a two-point conversion for a 14-0 lead.

Dennis finished with four catches for 101 yards. McMath completed seven of his 11 passes for 107 yards.

Defensively, Berkeley limited Hayward (0-6, 0-1) to 55 total yards in the first half and 74 in the game.

Berkeley travels to face Encinal (5-1, 1-0 WACC-Foothill) on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The Jets edged Bishop O'Dowd 7-0 on Oct. 11.

El Cerrito 41, Berean Christian 0: Led by 252 yards of rushing offense, the Gauchos ran away with a Tri-County Athletic League-Rock Division victory over host Berean Christian on Oct. 12.

Senior and UCLA commit Adarius Pickett paced the Gauchos with 154 yards rushing, including three touchdowns in addition to his duties playing cornerback.

El Cerrito (5-2, 3-0 TCAL-Rock) scored rushing touchdowns on its first five drives of the game, leading to a running clock for the second half.

Berean Christian quarterback Max Cuddihy completed 8 of 10 passes for 73 yards for the Eagles (2-5, 0-3). El Cerrito has a bye this week.

Valley Christian 27, St. Mary's 24, OT: Vince Volpatti rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner, as the Vikings edged St. Mary's at Chabot College on Oct. 11.

The Panthers (4-2, 1-1 TCAL-Rock) had a 14-7 lead in the fourth quarter, but Jairus Woodson intercepted a St. Mary's pass and returned it 54 yards to set up a 4-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Harris. The Vikings (3-3, 1-1) would take 21-14 lead three minutes later.

In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Panthers quarterback Ian Bonde engineered a 60-yard drive, capped by a 5-yard touchdown catch by tight end Ben Schrider as St. Mary's tied the score 21-21 and sent the game into overtime.

The Panthers took a 24-21 on a field goal after three failed passing attempts at the end zone, but couldn't stop Volpatti, who scored on two carries for the Vikings win.

St. Mary's will travel to face Salesian on Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Hercules 56, Albany 20: Antwuin Prowes, Joshua Jackson and Louis Michael all scored touchdowns in the first half as the visiting Titans (5-1, 1-0) topped the Cougars (0-6, 0-1) in the Tri-County Athletic League-Stone Division opener for both teams on Oct. 11.

After Albany took an early 6-0 lead, Michael scored on a 30-yard quarterback sneak with 3:45 left in the first quarter. Hercules took a 14-6 lead when Jackson scored on a 5-yard touchdown run with 10:59 left in the second quarter.

Prowes then caught a touchdown pass from Michael. Jackson had touchdown runs of 80 and 90 yards in the second half to put things away for Hercules.

Albany will travel to face Kennedy-Richmond on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
