The Oakland Strokes youth rowing club won gold and bronze medals at the Head of the Charles rowing classic in Boston recently.
The competition included 85 top high school teams.
The female varsity 8+ finished the 4800-meter course in a winning time of 17.23 minutes, 17 seconds ahead of second place OKC Riversport and third place Marin Rowing.
The boat was crewed by Tara Bozzini (Acalanes), Marie Johnson (Miramonte), Elizabeth Elmgren (Oakland Tech), Abby Vare (St. Mary's), Katie Hubert (Piedmont), Jennifer Mundelius (San Ramon Valley), Lindy Clute (Carondelet), Amy Tarczynski (St. Mary's), and coxswain Margaret Ross (Miramonte).
The male varsity 8+ finished third with a time of 15.31 minutes, 7 seconds behind first place Marin and one second behind second place St. Paul's.
The male varsity 8+ was crewed by Marshall Krock (Monte Vista), Viggo Hoite (Berkeley), Josef Starc (Oakland Tech), David Parker (Bentley), Kevin Chang (Bentley), Christian Cuellar (Alameda), Allan Hosler (Piedmont), Daniel Hogan (De La Salle), and coxswain Hannah Christopher (Miramonte).
