The Livermore Fusion '00 Gold girls clinched the U13 girls championship at the Coppa d'Oro Soccer Tournament hosted by Juventus SC on Dec. 7-8. The Fusion went undefeated in four games, including three shutouts: 4-0 over Juventus SC Razzo, 6-0 over San Carlos United SC Explosion Blue, and 1-0 over Peninsula SC Thunder 00G Blue.
In the championship game, the Fusion and Pacifica United SC Barracudas battled to a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation. In the second overtime, Kennedy Griffith scored the game winning goal for the Fusion.
Throughout the tournament, Fusion goalie Lindsay Harnish had three clean sheets, while teammates Emily March and Lilly Fehrmann both turned in hat-tricks. Additional tournament goals were scored by Lauren Moore, Katherine Lewis, and Griffith. The Fusion's tenacious defense was made possible by Samantha Kwan, Cassidy Bates and Kalea Bartolotto, with solid mid and front field control by Abby Fraser, Sophia Mylius, Josie Berg, Destiny Arriola and Abby Harnish. The Fusion '00 Gold team are coached by Frank Vitale and Ben Graham.
The Livermore Lazers hosted the first of their three Winter Session water polo tournaments on Dec. 14 at the Robert Livermore Community Center Pool, where 12 teams (including six local Tri-Valley clubs) braved the frigid weather conditions for the one-day tournament.
The Lazers' level II boys were led by goalie's Scott Ragatz and Noah Pettit. Other top all-around performers were twins Ryan and Dylan Weiglein.
The Lazers' Level I boys were paced by the strong field play of Camden Kiernan and James West, while goalie Steven Ragatz stifled numerous shots.
Several girls also had a strong showing for the Lazers, including Madison Weiglein, Gianna Paden, Devyn Baldus, and Emily McElroy.
